Why Can't I Go Live on TikTok? Common Fixes That Work
Can't go LIVE on TikTok? It is almost always the access requirements: usually 18+ and around 1,000 followers, varying by market. Here is how to fix each cause.
If you cannot go LIVE on TikTok, it is almost always because your account does not yet meet the LIVE access requirements: you generally need to be 18 or older and have around 1,000 followers, though this varies by market. That is the headline answer. The good news is that most of the reasons LIVE is locked are fixable, and once you know which one is stopping you, the path forward is clear.
I am LJ, founder of Peak Creators and a TikTok creator (@theylovlj) who grew from 18 to 2,000+ concurrent viewers. I have helped a lot of creators get unstuck on exactly this question. Let me walk you through every common cause, in order, so you can find yours fast.
Reason 1: You are under 18 (or your age is unverified)
TikTok requires you to be 18 or older to host a LIVE. This is the single most common reason the LIVE option does not appear at all.
The trap here is subtle. If you signed up with a birth date that makes your account read as under 18, or if your age was never verified, TikTok treats you as ineligible even if you are actually an adult. Check the birth date on your account first. If it is wrong, you may need to contact TikTok support to correct it, since age changes are restricted to prevent abuse.
Reason 2: You are below the follower threshold
You generally need around 1,000 followers to go LIVE, but the exact number varies by market and TikTok does not publish one fixed figure worldwide. Some creators report access at different points depending on region and account standing.
If followers are the only thing standing between you and LIVE, that is a problem you can solve. Post consistently, lean into a clear niche, and use your video content to point people toward following you. We have a full guide on how to get the followers you need to go LIVE that breaks down a realistic plan.
Here is something many creators do not know: official LIVE Creator Networks can sometimes help eligible creators get LIVE access below the usual follower point. TikTok's own guidance notes that networks can support access in certain cases. That is one of the reasons joining an official network early can be worth it, which I will come back to.
Reason 3: A temporary restriction on your account
If you had LIVE before and the button vanished, you are likely looking at a temporary restriction rather than a permanent block. This can happen after a community guidelines issue, a reported stream, or a flag on recent content.
Check your account status inside Settings. If there is an active restriction, it usually has an end date or a path to appeal. Streaming within the rules, avoiding restricted content categories, and giving the account time to recover standing are the practical fixes. Restrictions are often temporary, so do not assume the worst.
Reason 4: App, cache, or version problems
Sometimes the requirements are met and LIVE still will not load. This is almost always a technical hiccup, not an account one.
Run through this quick checklist:
- Update TikTok to the latest version from your app store.
- Fully close and reopen the app.
- Clear the app cache in Settings.
- Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Confirm your region settings, since LIVE availability differs by country.
These five steps resolve a surprising share of "the LIVE button is gone" reports.
Reason 5: You are eligible but cannot find the button
The LIVE option sits inside the create flow. Tap the plus icon to record, then look at the row of modes along the bottom (Photo, Story, Camera, and so on) and swipe to find LIVE. On some accounts it is tucked at the end of that row. If you meet the requirements and updated the app, it should be there.
How an official network helps you get LIVE-ready
Once you are LIVE, growing is its own skill, and getting access in the first place is easier with support. Peak Creators is an official TikTok LIVE agency on TikTok's official LIVE Creator Networks program, managed through the LIVE Backstage portal. Being on that program is what lets us support eligible creators toward LIVE access and coach them once they are on.
A few things that matter when you are choosing who to work with. Peak Creators is 100% free for creators, and we take 0% of your gift or Diamond earnings. TikTok pays the network separately, out of TikTok's own cut, so your share is never touched. If you want the full picture of how that works, read what a TikTok LIVE agency actually is and whether agencies take a cut.
There is also no follower minimum to join Peak Creators. Creators at any stage are welcome, and we help you get LIVE-ready with 1:1 and group coaching, in-house tools like custom overlays and interactive scripts, creator asset packs, and a large, active community of TikTok LIVE creators to learn alongside.
What happens once you are LIVE
The reason most creators want LIVE in the first place is earnings, so it helps to understand the model. Viewers buy Coins (roughly $0.0103 to $0.0133 each, an estimate that varies by region) and send you gifts. Those gifts convert to Diamonds, worth an estimated $0.005 each, roughly 200 Diamonds to $1.
Be realistic about the math. Gifts and Coins are virtual items that are not directly cashable; you cash out via TikTok's Rewards program. One analysis estimates the platform's effective end-to-end cut at around 77%, meaning creators net an estimated 25% to 50% of what viewers spend. Payouts go out monthly via PayPal, and withdrawals are PayPal-only with low tiered minimums and one withdrawal per day. You can model your own numbers with our free TikTok money calculator.
Set yourself up to win on LIVE
Getting access is step one. Keeping viewers is step two. TikTok's LIVE discovery rewards strong first-minute retention, watch time, real-time engagement, and consistent schedules. Pick a regular time, hook people in the opening minute, and talk with your audience rather than at them.
So, to recap why you might not be able to go LIVE: check your age, your follower count, any account restriction, and your app version, in that order. Most creators find the cause within those four. If you want hands-on help getting LIVE-ready and learning to grow once you are on, come say hi in our Discord and open a ticket. I am happy to point you in the right direction.
