TikTok LIVE Age Requirement: How Old To Go Live

You must be at least 18 years old to broadcast on TikTok LIVE and to send or receive gifts, and some markets set a higher local minimum. That single rule covers most of what people are really asking. The age floor for going live is the same age floor for earning, because the money on TikTok LIVE flows through gifts, and gifting is an 18+ activity on both sides.

The core rule: 18+ to broadcast

To start a LIVE broadcast on TikTok, your account has to show you are at least 18. TikTok checks this against the date of birth on file. If your account says you are under 18, the LIVE button does not appear, and changing your stated age is not a workaround. The official age requirements for TikTok LIVE set 18 as the global baseline for broadcasting.

This is a hard gate. It is not about your follower count or your content quality. It is about age first, everything else second.

18+ to send and receive gifts

The same 18+ floor applies to gifts, on both ends.

You have to be at least 18 to send gifts to a creator, and at least 18 to receive them. That second half matters for anyone who wants to earn. When a viewer sends a gift, the creator receives it as Diamonds. Diamonds are TikTok's reward currency for creators, and they are what you eventually cash out. So the age that lets you go live is also the age that lets you collect gifts and turn them into income.

If you are under 18, you cannot receive gifts even if you could somehow stream. The earning path and the broadcasting path open at the same moment: your 18th birthday, or older if your market requires it.

Some markets set a higher local minimum

The global baseline is 18, but local law and local policy can push the minimum higher in certain regions. TikTok adjusts requirements market by market to follow regional rules. So the honest answer to "what is the age requirement" is this: 18 as the floor, possibly higher depending on where you are.

If you are right at the line, check your own market rather than assuming the global number applies. The baseline is the starting point, not a guarantee for every country.

Followers come after age

Age is the first gate. Followers are usually the second one.

Beyond being 18+, most accounts need a follower base to unlock LIVE, commonly cited as around 1,000 followers, though the exact threshold varies by market. Some regions differ, and the requirement can change. One useful detail from TikTok's own guidance: networks can sometimes grant LIVE access to eligible creators below the usual follower number. So the full eligibility picture is this: be old enough first, then reach the follower threshold for your market, then go live.

Why the age rule and the money rule are the same

People sometimes treat "can I go live" and "can I make money" as two separate questions. On TikTok LIVE they are one question, because the income comes from gifts.

A viewer buys Coins with real money. Coin pricing is roughly $0.0103 to $0.0133 each as an estimate that varies by region. They spend Coins on gifts during your stream. You receive those gifts as Diamonds, valued at roughly $0.005 each as an estimate (about 200 Diamonds to $1), per this Diamond guide. Across that whole chain, the platform keeps a large share. One data analysis estimates TikTok's effective cut at around 77%, so creators net roughly 25% to 50% of what a viewer spends, as an estimate. Every step in that chain is gated at 18+. Note that Diamonds are not directly cashable on their own. Under TikTok's Virtual Items policy, the cash-out happens through TikTok's Rewards program once you meet eligibility.

Cashing out: also 18+, and PayPal only

When you do withdraw, the rules stay consistent with the age gate. Cash-out is PayPal-only, with tiered low minimums and one withdrawal per day, per the cash award withdrawal terms. You need a valid PayPal account and an account that already cleared the 18+ requirement to earn in the first place. There is no separate, lower age for collecting your money.
