To go LIVE on TikTok, tap the plus button, swipe to LIVE, set a title, and tap Go LIVE, as long as your account meets the LIVE access requirements (generally 18+ and around 1,000 followers). That is the entire core process. Most creators are LIVE within a minute of opening the app once their account qualifies. The rest of this guide walks through each tap, what to check before you start, and how to handle the first few minutes so your stream actually gets seen.

I am LJ, founder of Peak Creators (TikTok @theylovlj). I grew from 18 concurrent viewers to over 2,000, and I have watched hundreds of creators take their first LIVE. The button-pushing is easy. The setup and the opening minutes are where good streams are made.

Check your eligibility first

Before the steps work, your account has to qualify for LIVE. TikTok generally requires you to be 18 or older and to have around 1,000 followers, though the exact number varies by market. If you do not see the LIVE option when you swipe, that is almost always the reason.

A few things to confirm:

  • You are signed in to the account you want to stream from.
  • Your TikTok app is updated to the latest version.
  • Your account is in good standing with no active restrictions.

One useful note: official LIVE Creator Networks can sometimes help creators reach LIVE access, and there is no follower minimum to join Peak Creators. If you are stuck under the threshold, you do not have to wait alone. More on that below.

The step-by-step process to go LIVE

Here is the full flow, tap by tap.

  1. Open TikTok and tap the plus button at the center bottom of the screen.
  2. Look at the row of modes above the record button (Photo, Video, and more). Swipe across until you reach LIVE.
  3. Choose your cover image and add a title. Your title is your hook, so make it specific. "Late night chill chat + Q&A" beats "live now."
  4. Set your options. You can pick which camera faces out, toggle effects, and adjust who can comment or gift.
  5. Tap Go LIVE.

That is it. You are broadcasting. The whole thing takes longer to read than to do.

Set a title that earns the tap

Your title is the single most controllable thing about whether people stop. The LIVE feed shows your cover and title before anyone hears a word. Tell viewers exactly what is happening right now and give them a reason to stay. Questions work ("Ask me anything about X"), so do live activities ("Drawing your usernames as characters"). Avoid vague titles. Specific beats clever almost every time.

What to do in the first minutes

The opening minutes matter more than most new streamers realize. TikTok's LIVE discovery rewards strong first-minute retention, watch time, real-time engagement, and consistent schedules. If people land on your stream and you are silent or stalling, they leave, and the algorithm reads that.

Treat the first five minutes like a warm open:

  • Greet people by name as they join. Reading usernames out loud is the fastest way to make a new viewer feel seen.
  • State what the stream is about in one sentence, then repeat it every few minutes as new people arrive.
  • Ask a question immediately. Comments are engagement, and engagement keeps you in the feed.
  • Keep energy up even at low viewer counts. Early viewers decide whether the room feels alive.

I started at 18 viewers. The streams that grew were the ones where I treated 18 people like 1,800. That habit is what the algorithm and the audience both reward.

Understand how the money works

Once you are LIVE, viewers can send gifts. Those gifts convert into Diamonds, which TikTok defines as the unit of your LIVE earnings. A Diamond is worth roughly $0.005, about 200 Diamonds to $1 (estimate). Viewers buy Coins to send gifts, priced around $0.0103 to $0.0133 each depending on region (estimate).

Be realistic about the gap between what a viewer spends and what you keep. Independent analysis suggests TikTok takes roughly a 77 percent cut end to end, leaving creators with about 25 to 50 percent of viewer spend (estimate). Gifts and Coins are virtual items, not directly cashable. You convert Diamonds to a cash balance, then withdraw it.

Getting paid

Withdrawals go out through TikTok's program, PayPal only, with low tiered minimums and one withdrawal per day. If you stream through Peak Creators, TikTok pays you directly and monthly via PayPal. We never sit between you and your money.

Where Peak Creators fits

Peak Creators is an official TikTok LIVE agency on TikTok's LIVE Creator Networks program, managed through the LIVE Backstage portal. Joining is 100 percent free and we take 0 percent of your gift or Diamond earnings. TikTok pays the network separately, out of TikTok's own cut, so your share is untouched. If you want to confirm any network is legitimate before joining, here is how to verify a network is official.

What you actually get is practical support: 1:1 and group coaching, in-house tools like custom overlays and interactive scripts, creator asset packs, and a large, active community of TikTok LIVE creators streaming alongside you. There is no follower minimum to join, so creators at any stage are welcome and we help you get LIVE-ready. If you are curious what these networks really do, start with what a TikTok LIVE agency is.

Your first LIVE checklist

Before you tap Go LIVE, run this quick pass:

  • Eligibility confirmed (age and follower access).
  • A specific, hook-driven title written.
  • Good lighting and a charged phone or stable mount.
  • A plan for the first five minutes (greeting, topic, opening question).
  • A consistent time you can come back to next session.

Schedule matters. The algorithm rewards creators who show up reliably, and so does your audience. Pick a slot, post that you will be live, and keep the appointment.

Going LIVE is genuinely simple once your account qualifies. The skill is in the title, the first minutes, and the consistency. Those are learnable, and you do not have to learn them by yourself. If you want hands-on help getting LIVE-ready and growing, come say hi in our Discord and open a ticket.
